The stereoisomer D-phenylalanine (DPA) could be made by standard natural synthesis, either as only one enantiomer or as a part on the racemic mixture. It does not engage in protein biosynthesis although it is located in proteins in compact amounts - specifically aged proteins and foodstuff proteins
